You can quickly view a third-party plan note for a third-party plan attached to a patient's record and edit that note as needed, or if there is not a note, add one. You can view a third-party plan note when you are presenting a treatment plan to a patient with third-party coverage. You can also add and edit a third-party plan note by editing the corresponding third-party plan.
To add or edit a third-party plan note from a patient's record
How to get there
Use the Patient Search box to access a patient's record.
Notes:
If the last patient record you accessed since you last logged on is the correct patient's record, you do not need to re-enter the patient's name in the Patient Search box.
You can include inactive patients in the search results by setting the Include inactive patients switch to On.
On the Patient menu, under General, click (or tap) Overview.
The patient's Overview page opens.

Open one of the following pages of Dentrix Ascend:
A patient's Overview page - The Third-Party box displays the patient's third-party plan, and a third-party plan note icon appears next to the name of the third-party plan.
A patient's Third-Party page - This page displays the patient's third-party plan, and a third-party plan note icon appears next to the name of the third-party plan.
Do one of the following for a third-party plan:
If the icon is blue
, there is a note for the third-party plan. To view the note as a tooltip (only if you are using a mouse), position the pointer over the icon. To edit the note, click (or tap) the icon.
If the icon is grey
, there is not a note for the third-party plan. To add a note, click (or tap) the icon.
The Third-Party Plan Note dialogue box appears.
Enter or change the text of the note as needed. The third-party plan note is specific to this third-party plan. You can enter text, such as information from the third party. Also, you can insert the current date if needed. The note is accessible from all patient records that have this third-party plan attached.
Click (or tap) Save.
Note: You can also access and change the note as needed from the patient record of this patient's subscriber or from the patient record of any patient who has the same third-party plan as this patient.
